Ash dieback - a silent killer

If trees could only talk! What would they tell us?

Well, this ash tree would have told us that it had heart rot that began about ten years ago. It would have said that it didn't feel sick or weak because the heart wood is essentially a dumping ground for the tree's toxins and that structurally it felt fine. It was another invader that took a more subtle approach and entered through the leaves and buds and soft tissue to kill it. This disease can lead to branch drop over roadways, stem and whole tree failure, long before heart rot would ever create a problem for the tree.

Structural Hazards.
